OUR STORY
Beyond Diving has never been about certification cards.
It's about the divers who carry them.
From the beginning, our goal was never to issue the most certifications or teach the easiest courses. It was to help people become capable, confident divers—people their teammates could trust when things became challenging.
That belief has guided every decision we've made.
Not because it sounds good.
Because it's how we believe diving should be taught.
How It All Began
Beyond Diving wasn't built by a corporation.
It wasn't created from a business plan or a marketing strategy.
It was built by two people who chose an unconventional life and poured everything they had into it.
Sandra and I came to Mexico because we believed we could build something special. We weren't just opening a dive center—we were building a life around something we genuinely loved.
Over the years, Beyond Diving became far more than a place to teach diving.
It became our home.
It became lifelong friendships with divers from around the world.
It became early mornings loading tanks, long days in the caves, late nights answering emails, solving problems, laughing over dinner, and talking about tomorrow's dives.
It wasn't always easy.
Some days we loved it.
Some days we hated it.
But through all of it, we had each other's back.
And together, we built a life.
The Heart of Beyond Diving
If I was responsible for teaching people how to dive...
Sandra was responsible for making them feel like they belonged here.
She had an incredible gift for making people feel welcome.
She remembered names.
She remembered birthdays.
She remembered how people took their coffee.
She turned first-time visitors into lifelong friends.
She wasn't just part of Beyond Diving.
She became its heart and soul.
The kindness, warmth, and generosity she brought to every interaction shaped this company in ways that can't be measured.
Although she's no longer here, those values remain part of everything Beyond Diving stands for today.
Her influence didn't disappear.
It's woven into the foundation of everything we continue to build.
Meet Your Instructor
My name is Erik.
I've spent more than three decades diving, exploring, teaching, and learning.
Over that time I've explored wrecks, reefs, cold water, scientific diving, and eventually found my true passion in the extraordinary cave systems beneath Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula.
People often ask how many dives I've done.
The truth is, I've long since stopped counting.
Because numbers don't make someone a good instructor.
How you teach does.
Even after thousands of dives, there are still moments underground that make me stop, switch off my light, and simply appreciate where I am.
That sense of wonder has never gone away.
It's one of the reasons I still love introducing people to this incredible world.
My Philosophy
I don't believe in easy courses.
I don't believe in lowering standards because someone paid for a certification.
I don't believe confidence comes from collecting certification cards.
I believe confidence comes from preparation.
From repetition.
From making mistakes during training so you don't make them when it matters.
Every diver learns differently.
Some need more time than others.
That's perfectly fine.
My standards don't change.
Because the cave doesn't care how quickly you finished your course.
It only cares whether your skills are there when you need them.
My responsibility isn't to help you pass.
My responsibility is to help you become the kind of diver your teammates trust when everything depends on your training.
Beyond Diving Today
Beyond Diving has changed over the years.
Like any journey worth taking, it has evolved.
But its purpose hasn't.
Today I have the privilege of working with divers from all over the world who want more than another certification.
They want to understand why.
They want honest feedback.
They want high standards.
They want to become better divers.
If that's what you're looking for...
Welcome.
I'd be honored to be part of your journey.
For Sandra.
The heart and soul of Beyond Diving.
